Artist Biography
British Singer/Rapper Mz Fontaine is a cut above the rest; she posses the talent, drive and
determination to maintain her status as a proclaimed star. With the ability to cover Soul, Hip Hop
and R&B she is a versatile and dynamic individual who prides herself on achieving her goals.
“Mz Fontaine’s not only “out” as a lesbian, she also sings openly about female sexuality
with a fine craft… and by doing so the music industry hasn’t been able to force her into a
pigeonhole. Which explains why she isn’t half as exposed as she should be.” – EuroPride
Magazine, UK July 2006
Spring 2007 sees the upcoming release of Mz Fontaine first single “Tick Tock” off the forthcoming
album “Spoken Thoughts. To promote its release, “Tick Tock” was chosen to feature on
Showtime Television Series, The L Word [season four], along with plans to film the coinciding
music video to aid its promotion.
Developed behind the poetic aspect of spoken words the album “Spoken Thoughts” is a musical
expression into the world of Love, Pain and Politics. It is a sound compilation of personal thoughts
that will easily be incorporated into the life of the every day listener and LGBT community members
alike.
“When Mz Fontaine finally tours in the US, she will be THE hot ticket!” – Afterellen.com, USA
Mz Fontaine had shown interest in the entertainment sector from the start. Coming from a musical
background she first performed at the tender age of five [accompanied by her mother] at the very
prestigious “Cultural Centre” in the city of Georgetown.
Mz Fontaine shone in the spotlight. Her confidence grew rapidly so that by the age of twelve, she
had a collection of performances under her belt. She was certain of her future career but was
taunted and confused about her sexuality in her early teenage years.
Reaching the age of seventeen she made the bold and confident step to being a proud lesbian.
““I’m very open and have been since I found myself and became happy and comfortable in
my own skin as a young black and proud lesbian."” – Rainbow Network February 2006.
In 2002, she was crowned Miss Butch at the UK’s National Lesbian Beauty Contest, where she
utilised the platform to perform the very controversial “Pass Dat Crutch” there she made her mark
as the UK’s First Out lesbian singer/rapper.
This led to demands for performances at a vast array of leading LGBT events and with that added
burst of confidence, Mz Fontaine focused on promoting her musical talent and style with
appearances across the UK, Europe and USA.
““There aren’t many lesbian rappers like me, but more are starting up. They approach me
after shows and say I’ve inspired them. That’s nice.”” – Marie Claire Magazine July 2005.
Autumn 2005 saw the delivery of her highly anticipated debut album “New Era”. Inspired by the
reservation of her LGBT community, “New Era” was not just a method expressing her own
sexuality but a symbol of gender identification and sexual orientation. ““Being different is a
learning process.” And that’s the message Mz Fontaine, Pride London’s latest Patron, hopes
to get across loud and clear.” – EuroPride Magazine, UK July 2006
Elaborating on the themes of the first album, “Spoken Thoughts” is sassy eruption of new
innovative beats carving its way into the 21st Century urban music scene. LGBT music already attracts its own following but with this compilation “Spoken Thoughts” is one that can reach out to
mainstream audiences without Mz Fontaine compromising on her identity.
“Mz Fontaine is one of the stars of a new wave of rap and hip-hop... With a critically
acclaimed album under her belt, performances at high profile gay community events and
collaborations with artists in the UK and the US, Mz Fontaine is one to watch.”
